Boggione Claudio Barolo Brunate 2014.
The Estate – which belongs to Claudio Boggione – was started in 1900 by his grandfather, Antonio Boggione.
Antonio started cultivating the grapes to make wine which he either sold in bulk or bottled for family use. Later, his son Armando (Claudio’s uncle) joined him to help out.
Today the company is managed by Claudio alone, although his 16 year old son helps with running the winery. His uncle Armando is now 85 years old and no longer works. Claudio has been managing the winery for 15 years, during which time he put the once ‘family use only’ Boggione Barolo – those same batches bottled by his uncle – onto the market in 2006. Since then Boggione has gone from strength to strength, and although 2014 was a particularly difficult harvest, they managed to achieve 92 points from Decanter that year.
When Claudio started producing Barolo commercially, he trod very carefully with almost reverential respect towards Barolo and the traditional “Baroloists”, but very soon he discovered that his product was up to their standards and could be served at the same table as the most historic and famous wines.
The winery is situated on the hill of Brunate, next to the vineyard which expands over 1.5 hectares. Brunate is divided between La Morra and Barolo, a spot located between Rinaldi and Ceretto. A reception and wine shop sit on the main road, 2km away from the winery.
Over the years the company has made transitions to a careful process that respects the terroir by eliminating herbicides and insecticides in the vineyard. They sow seeds for fertilisation and have reduced the use of chemical treatments. Claudio Boggione is certified Green Experience, which is the organic certification of the Langhe. He is very proud of this, and each year tries to go one step further to gain even more respect for the land and the health of the vines. They have been certified Green Certificate for six years now.
Appearance: The wine displays an intense ruby red colour that immediately catches the eye.
Aroma: Pleasant and delicate scents rise from the glass, revealing ripe red fruits alongside subtle notes of rose and violet. Hints of liquorice and vanilla add depth and intrigue to the bouquet.
Palate: On the palate, the wine is dry, velvety, and round. Its full-bodied character delivers a harmonious and satisfying tasting experience.
