Chateau Rahoul Graves Rouge 2018.
Château Rahoul is one of only a handful of Graves wines to belong to the highly selective Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. The chateau produces alluring, distinctive wines, with juicy, dark fruit flavours and delicate tannins. It expresses all the fruit character and elegance of Merlot, enhanced by the complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
TASTING NOTES: Lovely, deep ruby-red. Delicate on the bouquet and intensely fruity and fresh, with a subtle hint of smoke. Initially rounded on the palate, the wine is full-bodied and fleshy, underpinned by lovely tannins and well-integrated oak. This very accomplished Château Rahoul 2018 culminates in a long, savoury finish.
THE VINTAGE: 2018 is characterised by record rainfall in the first half of the year, in contrast with a second half among the driest and hottest in recent decades. We were able to keep the threat of mildew in check, which remained a significant problem until July. The vines remained fully protected through the painstaking work and constant monitoring of our teams, together with strict adherence to environmental protocols approved by the certifications Terra Vitis and HVE 3. We were ready to face the summer months full of confidence, and were aided by favourable weather conditions from early August.
Pigment compounds and aromas becoming more concentrated in the grapes, all the conditions came together to make the harvests free from stress and the pressure of time. Beginning September 18, they continued without incident until 10th October, with the most late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines unveil a fleshy, silky texture and a lovely balance.
