Dunville’s 1808 Irish Whiskey.
Founded in 1808 and originally produced at the Royal Irish Distilleries in Belfast, Dunville’s was among the world’s most famous whiskey brands until the distillery fell silent in 1936. For almost 80 long years, the only place to buy a bottle of Dunville’s was at auction. Even that was a rare find. But now, The Spirit of Belfast is back and it is more beautiful than ever.
NOSE: Initial burst of sweet vanilla leads to crisp orchard fruits, apples and pears. Then lemon curd, leading on to candied lemon peel over notes of clean malt.
PALATE: Soft and creamy mouthfeel, buttery, with ripened citrus and baked biscuit, coming together in a burst of fresh lemon meringue, followed by a wisp of char and white pepper.
FINISH: Slight hints of dry smoke linger and intertwine with the juicier fruit notes, carrying through to a finish of sweet spice.
SERVE: Dunville’s 1808 tastes great the traditional way – neat or in the company of a pint. But it’s equally good in a classic cocktail or served long with ginger ale and a wedge of lime.
