Errazuriz Las Pizarras Chardonnay 2024.
Harvest 14th February and 8th March. The fruit was pressed as 100% whole-cluster, and fermented in French oak barrels, staying in contact with its lees for six months. 50% of the blend underwent malolactic fermentation (up from 35% in 2023).
This delivered more texture and breadth to the palate, whilst retaining the hallmark freshness and vibrancy of the wine that is unique to its location.
Sourced from three individual coastal plots, each handpicked in small parcels with rigorous selection and vinified separately. Plot 39, the ‘mother block’ and the heart and soul of the blend, consistently delivers the best and most complex fruit. This plot is extremely influenced by the slate rock from which these wines take their name, producing its hallmark salinity. South facing and therefore cooler, the vineyard avoids direct afternoon sun, preserving freshness and precision.
WINEMAKER NOTES: “Pale yellow with golden hues. A delicate, restrained nose reveals notes of white blossom such as orange flower, accompanied by hints of green apple and mandarin peel. Subtle layers of wafer pastry emerge, underpinned by notes reminiscent of ulmo honey and propolis. On the palate, the aromatic impressions are reinforced: a bright, citrusy entry gives way to flavours of wafer and floral notes. The attack is vertical and refreshing, immediately delivering a sensation of tension and crispness, beautifully complemented by a soft creaminess that adds texture. A complex, vibrant wine that achieves a fine balance between tension and texture.” - Tomas Muñoz.
CRITICS: “The 2024 Chardonnay Las Pizarras from Quillota in Aconcagua Costa spent six months on its lees and 12 months in oak barrels. Fine and delicate, it opens with subtle floral notes, a hint of herbs, ginger, crisp apple and a trace of jasmine. On the palate, it is vibrant and dry, with marked acidity, a saline edge and a soft, talc-like texture. Layered and nuanced, it strikes a well-judged balance between oak, tension and a faintly creamy texture. This vintage suggests that Las Pizarras is finding a stylistic path where fruit and tension express the cool climate while measured aging delivers greater harmony.” Drinking Window 2025 – 2045 - 97 points, Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous, Oct 2025
