Historic Significance and Location: Quinta do Ameal, nestled within the Vinho Verde demarcated wine region, is a property of remarkable heritage, with documentation tracing its existence to 1710. Beyond its picturesque landscape, its distinction lies in its setting in the Lima sub-region—the birthplace of the Loureiro grape.

The Property and Its Environment: The estate stretches for 800 metres along the Lima River and spans approximately 30 hectares. Of this, 14 hectares are dedicated to Loureiro vineyards, while 8 hectares remain forested, boasting a rich mix of trees such as walnut, chestnut, and pine—fostering biodiversity throughout the area.
The Loureiro Grape Variety: Loureiro, a grape that finds its origins in the Lima sub-region, achieves its finest expression here before spreading throughout the Vinho Verde region. Today, it is celebrated as one of the region’s foremost white grape varieties, esteemed for its aromatic character, lively acidity, and versatility. Wines from the Loureiro grape are known for their modest alcohol levels, resulting in an elegant, fresh profile.
