Speyside
Speyside single malts are a distinctive category of single malt Scotch whiskies, crafted in the region of Strathspey. This area encompasses the land surrounding the River Spey, which flows through Moray and Badenoch and Strathspey in the northeast of Scotland. The unique geography and climate of this region contribute significantly to the character and flavour profile of Speyside whiskies.
The region is home to the two best-selling single malt whiskies in the world: The Glenlivet and Glenfiddich. Both originate from Speyside, underscoring the area's reputation for producing high-quality whisky. Notably, Strathspey boasts the highest concentration of distilleries among all whisky-producing regions in Scotland.
Within Strathspey, the town of Dufftown stands out as a key centre of whisky production. Dufftown alone hosts six operational distilleries, which together have an impressive annual capacity of 40.4 million litres of spirit. This remarkable output highlights the significance of Dufftown and the wider Speyside area in the Scotch whisky industry.
