Zuccardi Jose Zuccardi Malbec 2018.
José Zuccardi Malbec developed from Zuccardi Zeta. Its traditional style has respected the wine’s identity since the first Zeta harvest in 2002. José Zuccardi Malbec reflects José Alberto’s pursuit of overcoming and conviction.
Sebastián Zuccardi made this wine to honour his father José. A traditional Malbec with black fruit notes at the fore and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon.
VINEYARDS: Malbec from Paraje Altamira and Cabernet Sauvignon from Gualtallary.
VINTAGE: A great year in the Uco Valley - good yields and great quality fruit produced excellent wines.
WINEMAKING: Selected bunches. Tanks are filled by gravity. Fermented in concrete vats with native yeast. Maceration for 20 days with daily delestage and piegeage. Aged in oak foudres. Bottled unfiltered.
The 2018 José Zuccardi mixes Malbec from different regions in the Valle de Uco (today, Altamira and Gualtallary) all with limestone soils. It always has a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon (only 5% to 10%), which is not mentioned on the label, and is now matured in foudre for two years. I tasted this next to the 2019, where there are no differences other than the nuances from the year, with similar alcohol and acidity, but the sensation is of a little wider and powerful in the 2018. The wine feels very stable and harmonious after the long élevage, but there are no traces of oak. It's serious and powerful, expressive and open, with a round and full palate and great persistence. 42,500 bottles were filled in July 2020 - Reviewed by Luis Gutiérrez, Issue Date End of November 2022, The Wine Advocate.
