Château La Garde Pessac-Léognan Blanc is only produced in limited quantity. Planted on a vein of deep limestone, Sauvignon Blanc is the majority variety in the blend, imparting the wine with rare aromatic precision and chiselled mineral character, underpinned by impressive length. Semillon is the perfect finishing touch to the blend and brings depth, harmony and full flavours.

TASTING NOTES: Pale in colour and tinged with green glints. Highly expressive on the nose, fresh and pure, releasing a hint of citrus fruit interweaved with floral notes. Taut, lively and very well-balanced on the palate, developing appealing breadth thanks to a touch of Semillon. The bracingly fresh and harmonious finish attests to the great elegance of the mineral character of sauvignon blanc on limestone, typical of Château La Garde white wine.

THE VINTAGE: From a grower’s perspective, 2021 will remain etched on our memories as a particularly demanding vintage. After a mild, rainy winter, spring was cold with four episodes of devastating frost. It felt like summer would never happen, marked by cool temperatures and rain, and recording the lowest hydric deficit in the last twenty years. A narrow 4-week window of dry, sunny weather towards the end of summer nevertheless brought a positive turnaround, promoting good phenolic ripeness and an increase in anthocyanin concentration. The harvest was late and punctuated by short, rainy spells.

2021 is along the lines of classic Bordeaux vintages, and a nod to the wine styles of old.
