Haras de Pirque
THE REGION: The property is located in Pirque, a central area of the country, one of the most prestigious and recognized areas of the Maipo Valley for vineyard planting, at the foot of the Andes Mountains. The Maipo Alto area is between 500 to 800 meters above sea level, an area with temperate thermal expansion with native vegetation of myrtle and boldo trees that sometimes give the wines balsamic characteristics. Thus, the wines produced in this area contain a high concentration of tannins, great structure and intense color.
THE TERROIR: The climate is semi-arid Mediterranean, highly influenced by the proximity of the mountain range and the anticyclone of the Pacific Ocean that appear through the open valley, giving this region characteristics that allow unique climatic interaction. The rains are stationary and mostly concentrated between the months of June and August. The position of the vineyards and the shape of the territory determines a temperature difference between day and night of 20° C. This difference provides slow ripening and consequently excellent grape quality. The soils in which the vineyards are planted are of colluvial origin; Consequence of volcanic eruptions in the area, which explains the differences in soil textures and structures, clay soils being the most present.
VINEYARD MANAGEMENT: The entire vineyard is located in a vertical trellis position, which provides better distribution of foliage and load, good ventilation and solar reception, and ease of carrying out work during the growth period. After the harvest, which in Haras de Pirque generally ends in mid-May, the pruning period begins to obtain an appropriate distribution of the clusters on the plant, along with efficient irrigation technology and an appropriate use of organic fertilizers, Canopy management begins in October to ensure optimal quality for the harvest. To ensure attention to even small details, at Haras de Pirque the harvest is done manually, which means that the grapes arrive at the winery in perfect condition to be immediately processed, thus maintaining all their quality potential.
ORGANIC MANAGEMENT: In 2006 the vineyard began organic management of the vineyard in the Maipo-Andes which was completed in 2016. Today, all the wines and vineyards of Haras de Pirque are organic, certified by the CERES institute, which It means that only environmentally friendly products are used in its production process. Soil management is carried out exclusively by machines without the use of herbicides and fertilization is carried out with natural components such as compost. The wines are partially fermented with natural yeasts selected from the vineyard and thus ensuring that the characteristics of the environment are reflected in the wine.
HORSESHOE: A unique horseshoe-shaped design symbolizes the passion for fine blood horses. Due to their location at the foot of the hill, the fermentation warehouses have a marked slope that allows the grapes and musts to be processed by gravity, reducing the use of motor pumps and other equipment. This technique substantially prevents the risk of oxidation, softer tannins and protection of the aromas and flavors of the wine.
THE WINERY: The architecture of the winery is striking, designed in a unique horseshoe shape, paying homage to the thoroughbred farm that is located a short distance away.
The winery is located on a hillside and was designed to integrate gravity flow technology into all phases of wine production, limiting the use of mechanical pumps. This technique ensures that the grapes are handled as gently as possible, extracting only the softest tannins and preserving balance and precision. The winery's approach ensures greater quality control and significantly reduces energy consumption.
