Puglia
An ancient and sunny region, Puglia stretches along the eastern ridge of Italy like a long terrace overlooking the sea. Its lands, flat or gently rolling, are home to one of the largest vineyard areas in Europe, but it is in its southernmost tip, Salento, that viticulture finds one of its most authentic and surprising expressions.
This peninsula, nestled between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, enjoys a warm, breezy Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and long, dry summers, ideal for optimal grape ripening. Sea breezes, which constantly blow through the area, moderate temperatures and protect the vines from excessive stress. The temperature range between day and night, though moderate, contributes to the aromatic concentration and freshness of the wines.
The soils are varied, from calcareous-clayey to alberese, often rich in rock fragments and minerals, and offer the vine roots an ideal habitat for balanced growth. The scarcity of rainfall during the vegetative phase favors healthy and naturally concentrated grapes.
It is in this context that historic grape varieties such as Negroamaro, Primitivo, and Susumaniello, along with white grape varieties such as Verdeca and Chardonnay, find their ideal home, producing intense, sunny wines that are increasingly elegant and recognizable. A viticulture rooted in rural tradition that today expresses itself with awareness, technique, and respect for the land.
Salento isn't just a tourist destination, but a vibrant agricultural landscape, made up of monumental olive groves, dry-stone walls, historic farmhouses, and vineyards stretching to the horizon. Here, the land is more than just beauty: it's culture, work, and identity.
