La Terrasse de La Garde 2019.
La Terrasse de La Garde is the second wine of Château La Garde, AOC Pessac-Léognan. Fruity, supple and elegant, the wine reveals concentration and supple character in remarkable harmony. Its approachable character and delicious flavours make it ready for immediate drinking.
TASTING NOTES:Bright ruby red. Impressive Merlot freshness on the nose, characterised by succulent aromas of redcurrants and cassis, underpinned by a delicate touch of smoke. Full-flavoured on the palate, with impressive density and power. The wine culminates in a generous finish, again enhanced by an appealing subtle smoky underlayer.
THE VINTAGE: 2019 got off to a mild start resulting in early bud break. The growing season was set back by changeable weather in spring, marked by two episodes of frost on 14th April and 6th May, with thankfully no major damage to our vineyards. Summer was hot and dry and by the end of June had set in for the duration, lasting right through until the harvest. These favourable conditions, together with painstaking work in the vineyard, good water reserves and fluctuating day/night temperatures from late August, promoted balance and concentration in the grapes. Welcome rainfall in mid-September added the finishing touch to ripening in the perfectly healthy red grapes.
The different varieties were harvested one after the other. The merlot and cabernet sauvignon are rich, fruity, well-structured and silky, pointing towards a vintage of great potential.
