This is the first single cask Lochlea have bottled, and a delicious ex-Laphroaig barrel was selected by the whole team at the Lochlea distillery.
Colour: Deep copper-amber with a glossy mahogany edge and a radiant honey-gold core.
Nose: Coastal peat and smoke rise first, braided with sweet barley and vanilla. Iodine, sea-salt and an Islay resin mingle with toasted oak, a medicinal edge tempered by velvety spice. Subtle citrus zest and honeyed fruit brighten the mid-palate, while a gentle sherry-tinged sweetness lingers, deepening the smoky, warm core.
Palate: On the palate, the ex-Laphroaig cask delivers a bold, peat-driven richness: oily, mouth-coating with coastal smoke, iodine and sea-salt, brightened by citrus zest. Ripe orchard fruit carries vanilla, toasted almond and cocoa; oak adds structure, while pepper and cinnamon spice linger into a long, maritime finish.
Finish: Long, peat-kissed finish with maritime smoke and iodine notes, balanced by vanilla and toasted oak. A touch of black pepper and spice lingers as the warmth persists, fading to a refined, lingering sweetness.
