Picked just as the fires were breaking out in the Willamette Valley, the 2020 Chardonnay Découverte Vineyard was fermented and matured in around 20% new French oak. It's scented of baked apples, pie crust, jasmine and spring butter with streaks of matchstick. The medium-bodied palate is ripe and concentrated, echoing the intensity on the nose. It has a deep core of orchard fruit, plenty of refreshing acidity and a long, gently textural finish. Although it feels clean, it's a touch less refined than the stunning 2021, and I would drink it on the earlier side for all its generous fruit. Around 500 cases were made.
