Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2019.
Zuccardi Concreto is made from grapes grown on a selection of chalky soils at our vineyards in Paraje Altamira.
Cool fruit and slate character with dried herb undertones.
VINEYARDS: From Paraje Altamira in the Uco Valley.
VINTAGE: 2019 vintage was an exceptional one, where the climate conditions allowed us to harvest each region, variety and soil type at the time we were expecting. Spring was generally humid (not necessarily rainy, but humid, with dew points that where higher than average). It has been a year of cool temperatures during a full week of January, and then moderate temperature always below average. The same thing happened during February and March, however this was a year of high luminosity.
WINEMAKING: 50% whole cluster fermentation in concrete vats without expoxy using native yeasts and maceration for 20 days. Malolactic fermentation and ageing in concrete vats.
The 2019 Concreto Malbec was produced with a selection of very stony soils, while the Polígonos is more of a village blend. They ferment with 100% full clusters but avoid the carbonic maceration, looking for the expression of very early-harvested grapes and looking for texture. This is very precise and balanced, pure, not overripe but textured. They like a faint note of blood and iron, and it's austere and serious. They do a short maceration to avoid extraction and to show the (mineral) backbone of the wine. 45,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2020.
